UGREEN USB 3.0 Type-A to Micro-B Cable for External Hard Drives, 5Gbps, 1m

Replace a lost or worn portable hard drive cable with the UGREEN 10841. It has the wide USB 3.0 Micro-B plug used by many portable hard drives, some SSD enclosures and cameras, and a USB-A plug for your computer, with full 5Gbps SuperSpeed transfer.

At 1m it gives a little more reach than the short cable supplied with most drives, so the drive can sit beside the laptop rather than dangling from it. Gold-plated connectors with foil and braid shielding help keep transfers stable, and it stays backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports.

UGREEN 10841 USB 3.0 A to Micro-B cable for external hard drives

Key features

USB 3.0 Micro-B

The wide Micro-B plug used by USB 3.0 portable hard drives and similar devices.

Up to 5Gbps

SuperSpeed transfer on USB 3.0 ports, and backward compatible with USB 2.0.

Shielded construction

Foil and braid shielding with gold-plated connectors for stable data transfer.

1m length

More reach than a typical short drive cable, so the drive can rest on the desk.

Where it fits

Portable hard drives

Works with USB 3.0 portable drives from brands such as Seagate, WD and Toshiba.

Backups and file transfer

Move photos, video and backups between a drive and a laptop or desktop.

Cameras and enclosures

Suits devices with a USB 3.0 Micro-B port, including some SSD enclosures and cameras.

Will it work with your setup?

  • Your device needs a USB 3.0 Micro-B port, the wide two-part port. It is not the same as the narrow Micro-USB port on older phones, though a Micro-USB plug can still fit the Micro-B port for slower USB 2.0 use.
  • The computer end is USB-A. For a laptop with only USB-C ports, use a USB-C to USB-A adapter or a USB-C to Micro-B cable instead.
  • 5Gbps needs a USB 3.0 or faster port on the computer; USB 2.0 ports run at USB 2.0 speed.

Setup and everyday use

  1. Connect the Micro-B plug to your drive, making sure it is fully inserted into the wide port.
  2. Plug the USB-A end into a USB 3.0 port on your computer, often marked blue or with an SS logo.
  3. Wait for the drive to appear, then copy files as usual.
  4. Eject the drive in the operating system before unplugging.
  5. Avoid bending the cable sharply at the Micro-B plug, which is the most common point of wear.

Before you buy

  • This cable is for USB 3.0 Micro-B ports, not USB-C or Mini-USB.
  • Transfer speed also depends on the drive itself; many portable hard drives transfer well below 5Gbps.
  • Some portable drives need more power than a single weak USB port provides; use a port directly on the computer rather than an unpowered hub.

Frequently asked questions

Will it work with my WD, Seagate or Toshiba portable drive?
Yes, if the drive has the wide USB 3.0 Micro-B port, which most USB 3.0 portable hard drives do.
Can I use it with a phone charger port?
It is a data cable for USB 3.0 Micro-B devices. It is not designed to charge phones with USB-C or narrow Micro-USB ports.
Why is my drive slow?
Check you are using a USB 3.0 port (usually blue or marked SS). Hard drives themselves also limit speed, typically far below 5Gbps.
My laptop only has USB-C. What do I need?
Use a small USB-C to USB-A adapter, or choose a USB-C to Micro-B cable instead.
Why does the drive disconnect sometimes?
Make sure the Micro-B plug is fully inserted and try a port directly on the computer. Unpowered hubs and front-panel ports may not supply enough power.
Is 1m too long for data?
No. 1m is well within the USB 3.0 length limits for reliable transfer.
