Frequently asked questions
Which end connects to the TV or projector?
Connect the end marked Display to the TV, monitor or projector. The Source end goes to the computer, games console, media player or HDMI output of the relevant AV device. This is a directional active optical cable, so reversing the ends will prevent normal operation. Read the labels before installation, particularly if the route passes behind fixed furniture or through a space that will be difficult to access later.
What is different about an active optical HDMI cable?
An active optical cable combines electronics at the HDMI ends with a fibre-optic path for the main high-speed signal. This construction is useful for carrying high-bandwidth video over a longer distance. The plugs still connect to ordinary compatible HDMI ports, but the cable has a defined Source-to-Display direction. Handle it as an assembled cable: do not cut, splice or try to terminate the fibre like a general installation wire.
Will it work with an HDMI projector in a meeting room?
Yes, provided the source and projector have compatible HDMI connections and the planned route fits the 10m length. The projector's supported resolution determines the picture you can use; a 1080p projector will not become a 4K projector. Before fixing the cable in place, test the actual computer, any dock or adapter, and the projector together at the mode you intend to use during meetings.
What do I need for 4K at 60Hz?
The source output, display input and any equipment between them must support 4K at 60Hz. Choose the appropriate HDMI input on the screen and select the desired output mode on the source. Some devices have input-format or enhanced-HDMI settings that affect available modes. If 60Hz is unavailable, inspect the whole connection, including a laptop dock or adapter, rather than assuming the cable alone controls the refresh rate.
Can it connect a games console or streaming player?
It can connect a compatible HDMI source such as a console or media player to an HDMI display, with video support up to 4K at 60Hz. Match the device's output settings to the screen. This is an HDMI 2.0, 18Gbps model, so choose an appropriately specified higher-bandwidth connection if your intended setup requires modes beyond its rating. The cable does not change game rendering performance or improve the resolution of the source content.
How should I plan and route the 10m cable?
Measure the route along the surfaces it will follow, including rises to a projector or wall-mounted display and access behind the source. Allow gentle bends and some slack at each end. Protect the HDMI heads and avoid pulling the cable by its connectors, trapping it under furniture or forming sharp folds. Test picture and sound before final fixing. For concealed building installation, confirm that the chosen routing method and cable rating meet the installation requirements.
Can I use an adapter, wall plate or HDMI switch with it?
An additional component may be usable, but it becomes part of the complete HDMI link and must support the required signal. Check its direction and resolution limits, especially with a USB-C adapter, HDMI switch or coupler. Test the cable directly between the source and display first, then introduce the extra component. This makes it easier to identify the part limiting the connection if a picture drops out or a mode is unavailable.
What should I do if I get no picture or sound?
Start with the Source and Display labels, then check that the screen is on the correct HDMI input and the source is awake. Reseat both plugs and try a lower supported resolution during diagnosis. On a computer, select the HDMI display as the audio output if sound is missing. Remove extra adapters or switches temporarily and test with another known-working HDMI source or display to isolate the problem.
