Frequently asked questions
Is this a complete cable or a roll that needs connectors?
It is a ready-made 30m Ethernet cable with an RJ45 male plug at each end. You do not need to fit connectors for a normal device-to-router connection. Check that both devices have suitable Ethernet sockets before ordering. Cable clips, adapters, wall sockets and networking equipment are separate items, so plan those parts of the route if your installation needs them.
Will this make my internet run at 1000Mbps?
The cable supports a Gigabit Ethernet link, but your internet speed is limited by your broadband plan, router, device and wider network. A 100Mbps port will still connect at its supported speed. For troubleshooting, check the negotiated Ethernet link speed separately from an online speed test; they measure different parts of the connection and do not necessarily show the same result.
Can I use it for a smart TV or gaming console?
Yes, when the device has a standard RJ45 Ethernet port. Connect it to a suitable router LAN port and select a wired connection in the device network menu if needed. An Ethernet connection can help where local Wi-Fi reception is inconsistent, but it cannot remove delays caused by an online game server, a busy internet connection or the service itself.
Does it work with a laptop that only has USB-C ports?
The cable cannot plug directly into USB-C. You need a compatible USB-C Ethernet adapter or a dock with an Ethernet socket, bought separately. Check that the adapter works with the laptop and operating system. If you want a Gigabit link, the adapter and the router or switch port must also support Gigabit Ethernet rather than only 100Mbps.
How should I check whether 30m is long enough?
Measure along the actual cable route, including skirting, furniture, corners and the final distance to each port. Leave slack for the plugs and for small movements of the equipment. A room-to-room route can be longer than the direct distance between devices. Test the connection with the cable laid out before fixing clips or closing cable management around it.
Is this a shielded cable with solid copper conductors?
No. The specification is UTP, meaning unshielded twisted pair, and the conductors are 26AWG copper-clad aluminium. The gold plating refers to the connector contacts, not the entire conductor material. The cross separator keeps the pairs arranged inside the jacket. Choose a cable expressly specified for shielding or solid copper if your installation calls for those features.
Can it supply power to a PoE camera or access point?
This listing does not establish a PoE power rating for the cable, so do not choose it solely on the basis of a matching RJ45 plug. For a powered camera or access point, check the device, injector or switch requirements and select a cable expressly suitable for that power level and installation. The 1000Mbps figure describes data performance, not a power-delivery rating.
Can I install it outside or bury it?
The verified specification is a PVC Ethernet cable and does not include an outdoor or direct-burial rating. Use it for a suitable protected indoor route. For exposure to weather, underground installation or a permanent building run, select cable with the required environmental and installation ratings. Do not assume that a black jacket alone makes a cable suitable for those conditions.
What should I check if the connection is slow or not detected?
First check that both RJ45 plugs are fully seated and that the router or switch port is enabled. Try another known-working port and check the device Ethernet settings. A 100Mbps link can be caused by equipment limitations or a connection problem. Test a direct device-to-router link before adding wall sockets, couplers or other parts that could affect the result.
Is it suitable for 10Gbps networking or optical fibre ports?
This SKU is specified here for up to 1Gbps Ethernet, so choose a cable with an explicit rating for your required 10Gbps link and distance when that is the goal. It also does not connect directly to an optical fibre socket or an SFP module. Check the physical port type and the required data rate on both pieces of equipment before choosing a cable.
