Frequently asked questions
How does the male-to-female connection work?
Insert the USB-A male plug into the host computer USB port, then plug your peripheral or its existing USB-A cable into the female socket. The extension moves that connection 1.5m away from the original port. It does not replace a device cable with a different connector at its device end. Check that the plug you want to extend is standard USB-A before choosing this model.
Can I use it with a keyboard, mouse or wireless receiver?
Yes, it can extend compatible USB peripherals such as a keyboard, mouse or USB receiver. This can make the connection easier to reach or let you position a receiver away from the back of a desktop computer. The peripheral keeps its usual setup requirements and functions. If you are troubleshooting a wireless issue, the final receiver position and surrounding equipment can still affect performance.
Will it work when plugged into a USB 3.0 computer port?
It can connect to a compatible USB-A port on a computer, including ports used for newer USB standards, but the extension provides USB 2.0 data transfer up to 480Mbps. A faster host port does not change the cable specification. For a storage device where USB 3.x transfer speed matters, choose an extension that supports the device speed throughout the connection.
Can it extend a flash drive or external storage connection?
It can extend a compatible USB storage connection at USB 2.0 speeds, with the actual transfer rate also depending on the drive and computer. A bus-powered hard drive may have additional power requirements, and extra cable length can affect reliability. If a drive disconnects or fails to start, test it directly at the computer before adding an extension, hub or another cable to the path.
Will the cable give me extra USB ports?
No, this is a single USB-A extension with one plug and one socket. It brings one existing connection closer to you. A USB hub serves a different purpose by allowing several peripherals to share a host connection. If you need multiple ports at a desk, choose a suitable hub and consider whether its connected devices need the additional power of an externally powered model.
Can I use it with a printer or scanner?
It can extend the USB-A end of a compatible printer or scanner cable. Connect the extension to the computer, then connect the existing device cable to the extension socket. The printer or scanner still needs its normal power supply, drivers and device cable. Check the combined cable length and test the complete connection before fixing the route behind furniture or relying on it for regular work.
Does it support charging a connected USB device?
It extends the USB connection, but charging behaviour still depends on the USB source, device, existing lead and total cable route. This model is primarily a USB 2.0 extension and should not be chosen on an assumption of a particular fast-charging wattage. For a device that needs reliable charging at a specified power level, use a cable and charger combination suitable for that requirement.
Can I connect several extensions together?
Avoid chaining multiple passive extensions when a single suitable cable can cover the route. Each additional connection adds length and another plug-and-socket junction, which can affect both the data signal and available power at the peripheral. Consider the cable already attached to the device as part of the total. For a longer route, choose a USB extension solution designed for that distance and peripheral.
What should I check if my peripheral disconnects?
Test the peripheral directly in the computer port first, then reconnect it through this extension. Check that both USB connections are fully inserted and that the cable is not under tension. If the device uses an external power supply, confirm that it is connected. For a storage device or another power-sensitive peripheral, try removing additional hubs or cables to identify which part of the setup affects reliability.
