Frequently asked questions
How long is UGREEN 20881, and is it the same as 20882?
SKU 20881 is the 0.5m, or 50cm, version of the US184 cable. SKU 20882 is the related 1m version. They share the same connection type and cable family, but the length is different. Choose 20881 when the devices sit close together and the complete route fits comfortably within 50cm.
Will I always get the full 5Gbps transfer speed?
No. 5Gbps is the maximum USB link rate, not a promised file-copy speed. The USB-A port, USB-C device, storage and software must all support the relevant performance. A USB 2.0 phone or computer port limits the connection to its own capability. Small files and slower storage can also reduce the observed speed.
How fast will this cable charge my phone?
The cable supports charging current up to 3A, but the actual rate is selected by the charger and phone. A compatible QC, AFC or FCP combination can use its shared charging mode. Battery level, temperature and phone usage also affect charging. The 3A rating does not mean every USB-A port will provide 3A.
Does it support USB-C Power Delivery or laptop charging?
It does not support USB-C Power Delivery or PPS because the source end is USB-A. A USB-C plug alone does not make a cable suitable for high-power laptop charging. If your laptop specifies a USB-C PD charger, use a suitable USB-C-to-USB-C cable with the required power rating and the recommended charger.
Can I use it with a USB-C iPhone, Android phone or tablet?
It can provide a physical USB-A-to-USB-C connection for devices that accept charging or data through that path. The available functions depend on the device. Unlock it and approve computer access when required. A phone with Lightning or Micro USB needs a different cable, and fast-charging modes remain specific to the phone and charger.
Can it connect a USB-C SSD or external drive to my computer?
Yes, where the drive supports a USB-A host connection and its power requirement fits the host port's output. The cable offers a 5Gbps-class data path, while the drive and computer determine the actual transfer rate. Use a direct suitable USB port when possible, and follow the drive manufacturer's guidance if extra power is required.
Will it work for Android Auto or wired CarPlay?
It can serve as a data cable when the vehicle has a compatible USB-A data port and the connected USB-C phone supports the vehicle's wired system. Compatibility depends on the phone and head unit. A charging-only vehicle socket will not work for these features, and the cable cannot add wireless connectivity to the vehicle.
Can it send video from my laptop or phone to a monitor?
This cable does not provide native USB-C video output such as DisplayPort Alt Mode, HDMI or Thunderbolt. It is intended for USB data and compatible charging through USB-A. For a monitor connection, identify the source's supported video output and choose the corresponding video cable or adapter for the monitor's input.
Why does my device charge but not appear on the computer?
First confirm that you are connected to a computer's data-capable USB-A port rather than a charger. Unlock the device, accept its access prompt and select file transfer where required. Some devices need their own software or drivers. Try a direct port without a hub to narrow down whether the problem is permissions, hardware or software.
What is included, and how should I look after the cable?
The package contains one black 0.5m US184 cable. Devices and chargers in the feature images illustrate possible uses and are not included. Keep a gentle bend near each plug, avoid trapping the cable under furniture, and unplug by holding the connector housing. Coil it loosely for storage and keep the connectors clean and dry.
