UGREEN Toslink Optical Audio Cable, Digital SPDIF, Gold-Plated, 2m

Carry digital sound from your TV, console or player to a soundbar or home theatre receiver with the UGREEN 70892. This 2m Toslink optical cable sends the digital SPDIF signal as light, so it is not affected by the electrical interference that can creep into copper audio leads.

Features

What it does well.

Key features

Digital surround sound. Carries PCM stereo and 5.1 surround formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS.

Immune to interference. The optical fibre signal is not affected by RFI or EMI from nearby power and HDMI cables.

Gold-plated connectors. Toslink plugs with a durable PVC jacket for a secure, long-lasting fit.

Plug and play. No drivers or setup beyond choosing the optical output on your source.

Where it fits

TV to soundbar. Connect a TV optical output to a soundbar that has an optical input.

Home theatre. Link a Blu-ray or DVD player or set-top box to an AV receiver.

Consoles and PCs. Send game audio from a console or PC with optical out to speakers or a DAC.

Will it work with your setup?

  1. Both devices need a Toslink (optical) port. Look for a square port, often with a small door, labelled OPTICAL, SPDIF or DIGITAL AUDIO.
  2. Optical carries PCM stereo and compressed 5.1 surround. Lossless formats such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD and Dolby Atmos from Blu-ray need HDMI eARC instead.
  3. Devices with a 3.5mm mini-Toslink port need a mini-Toslink adapter.

Setup and everyday use

  1. Remove the protective caps from both plugs.
  2. Insert one plug into the optical output of your TV, console or player and the other into the optical input of your soundbar or receiver until it clicks.
  3. On the source, set the digital audio output to optical and choose PCM or Bitstream (Dolby/DTS) as your audio system supports.
  4. Select the optical input on the soundbar or receiver.
  5. Avoid sharp bends and do not crush the cable; optical fibre can be damaged by tight folds.

A closer look

Before you buy

  • Optical does not carry Dolby Atmos or lossless Blu-ray audio; use HDMI eARC for those.
  • TV volume control over optical depends on the TV and soundbar; some setups need the soundbar remote.
  • If there is no sound, check the source output is set to optical and the format is supported by the soundbar.
