Frequently asked questions
Will this cable work with a Full HD television?
Yes, if the television and source have full-size HDMI ports. The cable can carry the picture mode supported by those devices, including a Full HD connection; a 4K screen is not required. Select the correct HDMI input on the television, then choose a compatible output resolution on the source. The cable itself does not add 4K detail to a lower-resolution programme or screen.
What do I need to display 4K at 60Hz?
You need a source output and display input that both support 3840 × 2160 at 60Hz. Any HDMI switch, receiver or adapter in between must also support the mode you want. Some televisions require an enhanced HDMI setting for the selected input. After connecting, check both resolution and refresh rate in the source settings instead of assuming the screen automatically selected the highest available mode.
Can I connect my laptop to a monitor or projector?
Yes, when the laptop has an HDMI output and the monitor or projector has an HDMI input. Connect the cable, select the display input and use the laptop display settings to duplicate or extend the desktop. If the laptop only has USB-C, a compatible video adapter or dock is needed separately. Check that the laptop port supports video through that adapter before buying it.
Does it carry audio as well as video?
HDMI carries digital picture and sound through the same connection, so a normal laptop-to-TV or media-player-to-TV setup can use this one cable for both. Select the television or HDMI device as the audio output if sound still comes from the computer speakers. A monitor also needs speakers or an audio output to play the sound; the cable cannot add speakers to a display.
Can I use it between an ARC television and soundbar?
Yes, ARC can be used when both the television and soundbar support it. Connect the ARC-labelled ports, then enable the relevant audio-return and HDMI control options in the device settings. Using an ordinary HDMI input that lacks ARC will not create an audio-return connection. Check the soundbar and television instructions for the supported audio formats and settings required by your particular equipment.
Is it suitable for a games console?
It can connect a console HDMI output to a compatible television or monitor. Choose a resolution and refresh rate within the cable and display capabilities, including up to 4K at 60Hz on a compatible setup. For a specific 4K at 120Hz or 8K requirement, choose an appropriate higher-bandwidth HDMI cable and matching display input. A cable cannot make a game run faster than the console supports.
Is 2m enough for my TV unit or desk?
Measure the route the cable will actually follow, including the distance behind the television, around the furniture and down to the source device. Leave a little slack so neither connector carries the weight of the cable. A direct 2m straight-line gap may require a longer cable once bends and port locations are included. Avoid pulling the lead tightly across the back of the equipment.
What should I check if there is no picture?
Confirm that the screen is on the correct HDMI input and the source is awake. Reseat both plugs by holding their housings, then test a direct source-to-screen connection without a switch or receiver. If a lower resolution works, check the supported modes and enhanced-input setting on the screen. Trying another known-working HDMI input can help distinguish a settings problem from a port problem.
How should I route and store the cable?
Use a relaxed route with room behind the HDMI plugs. Avoid sharp folds at the connector, crushing the cable under furniture or using its weight to pull on a wall-mounted screen. When disconnecting, hold the plug housing rather than tugging the lead. For storage, make a loose coil and keep the connectors protected from pressure so the cable is ready for the next setup.
