How switching and multi-display behavior works

Two USB-C video sources share one HDMI display. The direction is fixed and cannot be reversed. Only one monitor is supported; it cannot send one source to two USB-C screens.

Control: Manual button only; automatic switching is not supported.

Never assume: a product advertised as “bidirectional,” “splitter” or “matrix” behaves like another topology. Follow the source/output map above.

Setup and usability guidance

Best first test: one source, one short cable path, one display and 1080p60. Expand only after this baseline works.

  1. Step 1: Verify both USB-C ports provide DisplayPort Alt Mode; a USB-C shape alone is insufficient.
  2. Step 2: Use fully featured USB-C cables no longer than 2m to the two inputs.
  3. Step 3: Connect HDMI Output to one HDCP-capable display.
  4. Step 4: Select the correct display input, then press the switch button for Source 1 or Source 2.
  5. Step 5: Start at 1080p60 and move to 4K60 after both sources are confirmed.
  6. Step 6: Do not connect docks, storage enclosures or chargers to the source inputs.

What this product does

  • Follows this path: USB-C Source 1 or USB-C Source 2 (both must support DisplayPort Alt Mode) → button selection → one HDMI display output.
  • Supports its ceiling: Up to 4K60; backward compatible with 4K30 and 1080p60.
  • Uses these ports: 2 × USB-C female video inputs → 1 × HDMI Type-A female.
  • Handles control this way: Manual button only; automatic switching is not supported.
  • Passes compatible audio: Compatible audio is carried with HDMI video; Dolby Atmos is listed for a compatible complete path. ARC is explicitly not supported.

What this product does not do

  • Fixed USB-C-source to HDMI-display direction
  • No DisplayPort Alt Mode means no picture
  • One display only
  • No automatic switching
  • ARC, CEC and FreeSync are explicitly not supported
  • Do not place a Thunderbolt dock or Thunderbolt drive enclosure in the input path

What to do

Label.

Build gradually.

Verify cables.

Power safely.

Record settings.

What not to do

Do not reverse.

Do not confuse.

Do not assume scaling.

Do not force.

Do not overclaim.

Warnings and limitations

  • Power: No separate power input or charger function is documented; do not connect chargers as though the source ports were PD inputs.
  • Display negotiation: mixed displays can force a lower common mode or create a blank screen.
  • Protected content: HDCP must be supported end to end; the device cannot bypass protection.
  • Heat and moisture: indoor use only; keep dry, ventilated and away from direct heat.
  • Cables: UGREEN recommends Thunderbolt 4 or fully featured USB-C cables no longer than 2m. Charge-only and USB 2.0-only USB-C cables cannot supply display video.
