What it does well.

UGREEN USB 3.0 Hub, 4 x USB 3.0 Ports with USB-C Power Port (20805)

Key features

Four USB-A ports. Expand one computer USB-A connection into four ports for compatible peripherals.

Up to 5 Gbps. USB 3.0 signalling supports faster transfers with compatible storage and a USB 3.0 host port. Connected devices share the upstream link.

Optional external power. Connect a suitable 5 V supply to the USB-C input when additional peripheral power is needed.

Compact aluminium design. The small metal housing and 20 cm attached lead fit easily into a desk or travel setup.

A practical guide to choosing and using it

Build a practical four-device workspace. The hub lets a computer’s USB-A port serve several compatible peripherals at once. A keyboard and mouse can remain connected while another port is used for a flash drive, card reader or other accessory. Arrange the hub where plugs are easy to reach, particularly if storage devices are connected frequently. The short attached lead helps keep it beside the computer rather than across the desk.

Understand how the upstream connection is shared. The four USB-A sockets connect through one USB 3.0 link to the computer. This is useful for expanding access, but it does not give each connected device a separate full-speed connection to the host. Simultaneous transfers share the available link. Storage performance also depends on the drives and the computer, so the maximum signalling rate is not a promised file-copy result.

Use auxiliary power for the right purpose. The USB-C socket is a power input for the hub and connected peripherals. It is not an extra data port, a USB-C host connection or a laptop charging input. When a supported peripheral needs more power than the host connection can comfortably provide, use a suitable 5 V supply as required by the setup. Additional power does not increase the USB link speed.

Connect and disconnect storage carefully. Start with the hub connected directly to a suitable computer USB-A port. Add peripherals and check that they appear as expected. If a storage device disconnects or does not start, investigate its power requirements and test a direct connection. Before unplugging a drive, finish transfers and eject it in the operating system so pending writes can complete.

A closer look

Before you buy

  • The USB-C port supplies power to the hub; it does not carry data or charge the computer.
  • The USB-A ports are intended for data peripherals, not as a multi-port fast charger.
  • Transfer speed depends on the host, device and simultaneous activity on the hub.
