Product overview

Overview

UGREEN 10639 carries one unbalanced mono analogue audio channel between two matching 6.35mm (1/4-inch) TS sockets. A passive cable has no software, drivers or direction-setting electronics; the equipment connected at each end determines the signal flow, level and sound.

Features

What it does well.

UGREEN 10639 twin 6.35mm TS mono plugs and braided cable

Key features

Highlights

  • Connector layout: 6.35mm TS mono male to 6.35mm TS mono male, with one signal contact plus sleeve/ground.
  • Length: 3m from this SKU 10639 listing.
  • Construction: product information identifies a copper signal path, shielding braid, nylon-braided outer layer, metal connector housings and strain reliefs.
  • Contacts: gold-plated plug surfaces are intended to resist surface oxidation; they do not change the source or destination signal format.
  • Passive operation: no power supply, battery, software, pairing or driver is required.

Connector map and signal direction

Know every end

The cable is physically symmetrical, but the system still needs a source output at one end and a suitable receiving input at the other. Follow the labels on the connected equipment.

  • Tip: carries the single mono audio signal.
  • Sleeve: provides the return and shield connection.
  • Typical source side: electric guitar, bass, keyboard, synthesiser, electronic drum module, pedal or another device with a 6.35mm mono output.
  • Typical destination side: instrument amplifier input, effects pedal input, DI box, mixer line/instrument input or audio-interface instrument input that accepts TS.
  • Signal direction: electrically passive and reversible; practical direction follows the output-to-input path of the equipment.

Use scenarios

Where it makes sense

Choose this cable when the route is a conventional unbalanced 6.35mm mono signal and the 3m length reaches without tension.

  • Electric guitar or bass to a compatible instrument amplifier input for rehearsal, practice or performance.
  • Instrument to pedalboard, or a pedal output to the next TS input, where each device uses standard mono 6.35mm connections.
  • Keyboard, synthesiser or electronic drum module mono/left output to a compatible mixer, interface or powered-speaker line input.
  • Short studio patch from a DI, preamp or other mono analogue device to a matching unbalanced input, after checking signal level.

Setup and usability guidance

Connect with confidence

A quiet connection depends as much on gain staging and socket condition as on the cable. Make the connection in this order.

  1. Identify a 6.35mm TS output on the source and a 6.35mm TS-compatible input on the destination. Do not rely only on the socket diameter—read the port labels or manuals.
  2. Mute the destination channel or turn the amplifier volume down. Switch off equipment when its manual recommends power-off connection.
  3. Insert both plugs straight and fully until each is firmly seated. Keep the cable free from sharp bends at the metal housings.
  4. Power or unmute the equipment, then raise source and destination levels gradually while monitoring for clipping, hum or crackle.
  5. Secure excess length in wide loops away from walkways and mains power bricks. Recheck the cable if moving an instrument interrupts the sound.

Compatible devices and systems

Match the physical and electrical interface

Compatibility requires matching physical connectors and a suitable unbalanced mono signal level. The cable does not make unlike ports electrically compatible.

  • Electric guitars, bass guitars and other instruments with standard 6.35mm TS outputs.
  • Keyboards, synthesisers, drum modules and effects equipment whose labelled mono or L/Mono connections accept TS plugs.
  • Instrument amplifiers, pedals, DI boxes, mixers and audio interfaces with compatible 6.35mm instrument or unbalanced line inputs.
  • Some wireless microphone receivers or audio devices with 6.35mm mono outputs, provided the receiving input accepts the same level.
  • Not a direct fit for 3.5mm, RCA, XLR, speakON, USB-C, Lightning or optical ports without a separate correctly specified interface.

What this product does

Capabilities

  • Carries one passive unbalanced mono analogue channel over a 3m connection.
  • Provides male TS plugs at both ends for equipment with female 6.35mm jacks.
  • Uses a braided outer jacket and metal housings to support routine instrument-cable handling.
  • Can be used in either physical orientation because there is no active source or destination end inside the cable.
  • Passes the tone and level produced by the connected equipment within the limits of a normal analogue instrument link.

What this product does not do

Clear boundaries

  • It does not carry stereo as a left/right pair and is not a 6.35mm TRS balanced cable.
  • It does not amplify a passive pickup, provide phantom power, convert instrument level to microphone level or match impedances.
  • It is not a power-amplifier-to-passive-speaker cable and should not carry speaker-level current.
  • It does not remove hum caused by a ground loop, noisy power supply, excessive gain or defective equipment.
  • It does not convert analogue audio to USB, Bluetooth, HDMI, optical or another digital format.

What to do

Good practice

  • Turn the source volume down, mute the channel or power equipment off before inserting or removing plugs; this reduces loud pops and protects connected speakers and hearing.
  • Push each connector fully home without twisting the cable as a lever. A partly seated plug can lose a channel, hum, crackle or make intermittent contact.
  • Route the cable away from mains adapters, motorised equipment and sharp metal edges where practical, then provide enough slack that the connector is not carrying the cable weight.
  • Coil the cable in broad, relaxed loops for storage. Inspect the plugs, strain reliefs and jacket before a recording, performance or long unattended session.
  • Confirm the source output type, destination input type and expected signal level in both device manuals; matching connector diameter alone is not enough.

What not to do

Avoid these mistakes

  • Do not pull by the cable, kink it at the connector, crush it under furniture, trap it in a door or leave it where people can trip over it.
  • Do not force a connector into the wrong size or pin format, and do not use a loose stack of adapters where movement can stress the equipment socket.
  • Do not connect two outputs together. Identify one signal-producing output and one compatible receiving input before making the link.
  • Do not assume a passive cable adds gain, changes impedance, removes ground-loop noise or repairs a defective source, input or power supply.
  • Do not use a signal cable for mains electricity or for a power-amplifier speaker output unless that cable is expressly rated for the load.

Warnings and limitations

Important safety and performance notes

Instrument signals can be quiet and high-impedance, while line and speaker outputs are electrically different. Protect the connected devices by confirming port roles before use.

  • Never connect an amplifier speaker output to a passive speaker with this instrument cable; use the speaker cable specified by the amplifier and speaker manufacturers.
  • An unbalanced route is more sensitive to electromagnetic interference than a balanced connection. Keep it away from mains leads, transformers and lighting dimmers where practical.
  • Lower gain or move the cable if hum appears. Persistent noise can originate in the instrument pickups, grounding, power supply, amplifier or building wiring.
  • Do not use a wet, cut, crushed or heat-damaged cable. Disconnect it and replace it if conductors or shielding become exposed.
  • Use hearing-safe volume. Connection pops and feedback can be sudden when an amplifier or mixer channel is live.

Troubleshooting and buying checklist

Solve common connection problems

Work from the endpoints inward. Most faults are caused by the wrong port type, incomplete insertion, muting or gain configuration rather than the passive lead itself.

  • No sound: verify output-to-input routing, instrument volume, tuner/pedal bypass state, amplifier input selection and that both plugs are fully seated.
  • Buzz or hum: separate signal and mains cables, try the same power circuit, reduce excessive gain and test each device with a known-good short cable.
  • Intermittent sound: hold the plug housing still and gently move only the cable near each strain relief; crackle may indicate a worn socket or damaged conductor.
  • Thin or unexpected sound: confirm the input is intended for TS instrument/mono use rather than a balanced TRS or stereo headphone connection.
  • Before buying: check 6.35mm TS at both ends, 3m routing distance, source signal level and that no speaker-power connection is involved.
