Product guide

Overview

Connect a USB-C computer, tablet or phone directly to an HDMI display with a single 1.5m cable. The UGREEN 30841 sends video from a USB-C source to an HDMI television, monitor or projector and supports up to 4K at 30Hz for this 30841 version. The USB-C source must provide DisplayPort Alternate Mode or compatible Thunderbolt/USB4 video output.

Features

What it does well.

Key features

Highlights

  • USB-C male source connector to HDMI male display connector.
  • Unidirectional USB-C-to-HDMI signal path.
  • Supports up to 3840 × 2160 at 30Hz with compatible source and display.
  • Supports mirror and extended-display modes when the host operating system allows them.
  • Carries compatible HDMI audio together with video.
  • 1.5m cable with an ABS connector case, gold-plated contacts and shielded construction.
  • Plug-and-play display connection without a separate software graphics driver.

How it fits into your setup

Connection logic

USB-C shape alone does not guarantee display output. Connect the USB-C plug to a laptop, tablet or phone that can transmit DisplayPort Alternate Mode video, then connect the HDMI plug directly to an HDMI display input. Thunderbolt 3/4 and compatible USB4 ports may provide the required video capability, but the device specification still controls support. The cable is directional. It converts a compatible USB-C video source to HDMI; it does not accept an HDMI source for capture or conversion into a USB-C monitor. It also has no charging pass-through or USB data ports.

Use scenarios

Real-world workflows

Use scenario 1

Present a USB-C laptop screen on a meeting-room projector.

Use scenario 2

Extend a compatible notebook desktop to an HDMI monitor for documents, messaging or reference material.

Use scenario 3

Mirror photographs or video from a supported USB-C tablet or phone to a television.

Use scenario 4

Connect a Thunderbolt-equipped computer directly to an HDMI display when 4K 30Hz or a lower format is sufficient.

Setup and usability guidance

Step-by-step

Confirm the source device specification lists DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt video or compatible USB4 display output.

Connect USB-C to the source and HDMI to the television, monitor or projector.

Select the correct HDMI input on the display.

Open the host display settings and choose mirror or extend, then select a resolution the display accepts.

Choose the HDMI display as the audio output if sound should play through the display.

If there is no picture, reconnect both ends, test 1080p first and remove other docks or adapters from the path.

Compatible devices and systems

Match the complete system

Compatibility check 1

Compatible with USB-C hosts that explicitly support DisplayPort Alt Mode video, as well as compatible Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 ports.

Compatibility check 2

The HDMI destination must support the selected resolution and refresh rate. The maximum stated resolution is 4K 30Hz; 1080p and other lower formats can be selected where supported.

Compatibility check 3

A USB-C charging or data-only port will not produce video even though the plug fits.

What this product does

  • Converts a compatible USB-C DisplayPort video signal to HDMI.
  • Carries supported picture and HDMI audio from one source to one display.
  • Allows mirror or extended-desktop use when controlled by the host.
  • Provides a direct cable connection without an additional HDMI lead.
  • It does not work from HDMI source to USB-C monitor; the direction cannot be reversed.
  • It does not add video output to a USB-C port that lacks DisplayPort Alt Mode.
  • It does not charge the connected computer, tablet or phone.
  • It does not provide USB data, a USB hub, Ethernet or memory-card access.
  • This 30841 version is not presented as a 4K 60Hz cable.

Check before buying

Important limitations

Use this checklist to confirm this model suits the intended job.

  • Confirm the USB-C source explicitly supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode, Thunderbolt video or compatible USB4 display output.
  • Verify the required direction is USB-C source to HDMI display, not HDMI source to USB-C input.
  • Check that 1.5m reaches the display without straining either built-in connector.
  • Use the conservative 4K 30Hz maximum for purchase planning; 1080p modes may support higher refresh rates when the source and display agree.
  • Plan a separate charger because this cable has no USB-C Power Delivery pass-through.

What to do

  • Check USB-C video capability before purchase; connector shape alone is not proof.
  • Use 4K 30Hz or a lower mutually supported setting for this model.
  • Keep both connectors fully inserted and protect the cable from repeated sharp bends.
  • Update the host graphics system and select the correct display input when troubleshooting.
  • Do not connect HDMI as the source and expect USB-C output.
  • Do not expect charging or Power Delivery through the cable.
  • Do not force 4K 60Hz, HDR or HDCP modes that the complete setup does not support.
  • Do not use it as a USB capture device; it sends display output and does not record HDMI.

Warnings and limitations

Safe and realistic operation

Warning 1. This 30841 version is specified at up to 4K 30Hz. Do not select it when a 4K 60Hz connection is required.

Warning 2. Streaming services and protected video can depend on host, display and HDCP compatibility; the cable cannot bypass content protection.

Warning 3. Some phones and tablets restrict extended-desktop behaviour and offer mirroring only.

Warning 4. A blank screen usually indicates an unsupported source port, wrong display input or incompatible resolution rather than a charging issue.

Specifications

At a glance.

If you notice
Check this first
Display shows no signal
Confirm the USB-C port supports video, select the correct HDMI input and reconnect with the source awake. Test a known-compatible display if possible.
Only 1080p is available
Check the source graphics capability, operating-system display settings and HDMI display input. The negotiated mode cannot exceed the weakest part of the path.
Picture works but audio does not
Select the HDMI display as the audio output in the source operating system and confirm that the display can play HDMI audio or pass it onward.
Display remains blank after sleep
Disconnect and reconnect the cable or reselect the HDMI input to restart the display handshake, then update the source graphics software if the issue repeats.
Phone or tablet is incompatible
Many USB-C mobile devices support charging and data but not wired display output. Check this model specification for DisplayPort Alt Mode or desktop/display support.

FAQs

Questions buyers ask.

How do I know whether my USB-C port supports video?

Check the device manual for DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt 3/4 or compatible USB4 display output. A charging icon or USB-C shape alone is not enough.

Can I connect an HDMI laptop to a USB-C monitor?

No. This cable is unidirectional from USB-C source to HDMI display.

Does it support 4K 60Hz?

This 30841 version is specified at up to 4K 30Hz. Select another 4K 60Hz model if that refresh rate is required.

Can it extend rather than mirror the desktop?

Usually yes on computers that support extended displays. Phones and tablets may offer only the modes provided by their operating system.

Will audio travel over the cable?

Compatible HDMI audio is carried with video. Select the HDMI display as the sound output in the host settings if needed.

Does the cable charge the laptop?

No. It has no USB-C Power Delivery input; connect the laptop charger separately.

Why is the screen blank?

Confirm USB-C video support, select the correct HDMI input, reconnect both ends and test at 1080p. Also check whether protected content or display settings are causing the issue.

Do I need a driver?

No separate cable driver is normally required. The host still needs working graphics drivers and operating-system display support.

Can I connect an HDMI laptop to a USB-C monitor with this cable?

No. The direction is USB-C source to HDMI display only. It does not convert an HDMI output into a USB-C display input.

Can the cable charge my laptop while video is playing?

No charging path or USB-C Power Delivery input is provided. Use the laptop’s separate charging port or a suitable dock when simultaneous charging is required.

Can it extend a desktop instead of mirroring?

The cable can carry the display signal, while mirror or extended mode is controlled by the source device and operating system. Support depends on that device’s graphics capabilities.
